Community Leagues
Like the community as a whole, the adult sports scene in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene is laid back. Although there are fewer organized sports options for grown-ups, some do exist. ZogSports, the city-wide, co-ed sports league and charity, offers both touch football and outdoor soccer. The touch football season starts in September, while soccer will gear up again in summer 2010 just in time for the World Cup.
Otherwise adult sports typically revolve around pick-up games -- meaning it's actually easier to get in the game. Most weekday evenings there's a lively pick-up basketball game at Pratt Gym. Soccer enthusiasts often meet up at Brooklyn Tech's Charles B. Wang Field at Clermont and Fulton between dawn and 10 am on weekend mornings or gather at Fort Greene Park during the late afternoon on the weekend and from 6 to 8 pm on weekdays.
For those who seek fitness but aren't keen to suit up for a team sport, you can lift, run and, yes, do a striptease at Crunch on Fulton Street at St. Felix. Further east on Fulton, you can practice tae kwon do at Humble School of Martial Arts or stretch a little through yoga, Pilates and other holistic exercise in a variety of classes at Embora.
If getting on a treadmill makes you feel like a caged hamster head for Fort Greene Park. A loop of the outside is .80 miles and you can mix and match a route depending on the distance you want.
But if your idea of proper sporting events involves a remote control and several reps of pint-sized bicep curls, stop in at Mullane's Bar & Grill where there's always a game on and keg that's tapped.
