Officer O’Shea talks DOA
What does the acronym D.O.A mean to you? Dead On Arrival? Dead Or Alive? Death Of Auto-Tune? Well, yes, all of the above are correct. But in the world of Police Officer Sean O’Shea, 10 year veteran as Crime Prevention Officer of the 88th Precinct, it has a different meaning, “Desire, Opportunity, Ability”. To him, these are the three things that create the perfect environment for a crime to take place.
There is really nothing you can do to change the “Desire” of a career burglar to break into your house, or the “Ability” of a pickpocket to take your wallet. But with a little alertness, and some changes to your daily routines, you can eliminate the “Opportunity” that presents itself for a crime to be committed.
On my visit to Officer O’Shea’s office, I realized that he had way too many crime prevention tips for me to adequately cover in one post. To my delight, Officer O’Shea agreed to partner with My Little O where he will share a weekly crime prevention tip to our readers. An example of one tip I learned is: Wrapping a rubber band around your wallet makes it more difficult for pickpockets to get it out.
Starting next week, look for “Officer O’Shea’s Tip of the Week,” where he will share more tips just like this one.
