Affordable homes in Fort Greene
Here are the highlights from the Atlantic Terrace affordable homes meeting on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Hanson Place Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
*When completed, the Magnusson Architecture and Planning designed Atlantic Terrace will be a 10-story eco-friendly building comprising of 80 mixed-income one, two and three bedroom units, ground floor retail, and underground parking. The building is 75% completed and is slated for a spring 2010 completion, and summer 2010 move in. It will be located at 212 South Oxford Street and Atlantic Avenue.
*The application deadline is January 16, 2009, which means that your application must be postmarked by that date. The application MUST be sent by regular mail (No exceptions!!). Your application will be disqualified if you send more than one.
*The application and lottery process is being managed by the Fifth Avenue Committee. You can visit them (to pick up an application) at the Fifth Avenue Committee Center, 621 Degraw Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217. *There was a presentation by Pat Julien of Pratt Area Community Council (PACC). She outlined the types of homebuyer and homeowner services they provide. There will be PACC homebuyer workshops ($40 for PACC members, $50 for non-members) at the Gibbs Mansion, 218 Gates Avenue every Thursday in January 2010. *There were handouts from two area banks mortgage consultant; Jonathan Regis of HSBC (718.864.5875), and Ryan Chandler of Chase (718.491.8426).
*City Council Member Tish James said that there are other Affordable housing developments in the pipeline that will be announced later. Two that have already been announced are:
- The Brig (the old naval prison on Vanderbilt b/t Flushing and Park Avenues) will be renamed Navy Green with over 400 new residential units.
- There will be over 300 residential units built on the parking lot of 470 Vanderbilt (the telecom building).
