Highlights from Tuesday night’s 88th Precinct Community and Youth Council meeting
- Anthony Tasso, Commanding Officer of the 88th Precinct, was promoted in December to Deputy Inspector from Captain
- The 88th Precinct Community Council has a new Web site at www.88thprecinctcommunitycouncil.org
- In response to concerns about patrol cars driving through Fort Greene Park, Lieutenant Barry Berger made it clear that their primary concern is safety, and as long as there are muggings in the park, they will continue to drive through.
- In response to a question about reckless drivers in the neighborhood, Office Berger said that officers will issue citations when they notice traffic violations, but they do not make it their primary focus when they are out patrolling. One resident said that the intersection of Fulton and Lafayette is very dangerous and something needs to be done.
- The United Federation of Teachers will hold a rally on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Brooklyn Tech. This is in response to the proposed citywide school closings.

- Overall crime was down by 111 or 10%
- Murder down 25% (3 vs. 4)
- Rape down 28.6% (5 vs. 7)
- Robbery down 17.4% (195 vs. 236)
- Felony Assault up 0.7% (136 vs. 135)
- Burglary up 3.5% (179 vs. 173)
- Grand Larceny down 13.4% (395 vs. 456)
- Grand Larceny Auto down 12.7% (89 vs. 102)
