At Wednesday’s Community Board 2 (CB2) general meeting, Borough President Marty Markowitz swore in the board’s 2010 elected officers:
- Chairperson – Mr. John Drew
- 1st Vice Chairperson – Ms. Irene Janner
- 2nd Vice Chairperson – Mr. Lenue (Lenny) Singletary
- Secretary – Mr. Lincoln Restler
Announcements:
- New York State Assemblyman Hakeem Jefferies explained that the state is looking at a budget deficit of $8 to $10 billion in 2010. He will hold his State of the District Address on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 6:30 PM, at Pratt Institute/Higgins Hall. - Newly elected City Council Member Steve Levin of the 33rd District addressed the board. He said that the city is anticipating a 2010 budget deficit of $3 to $5 billion
- Four unnamed members of the board will receive letters discontinuing their memberships because of low attendance
- Effective in April, Con Edison will increase their rates by 3.6%
- The United States Environmental Protection Agency responded in support of CB2 resolution to stop the natural gas drilling in the NYC watershed
- Construction will start on the Manhattan Bridge within the next few months to rewrap the bridge’s main cables. Anticipate lane closures and subway suspensions
- The Flatbush Avenue Reconstruction Project (from Tillary Street to Hanson Place) will begin this spring
- Atlantic Yards construction is set to begin within the next few weeks
- The B25 bus line will not be eliminated as originally proposed by the MTA
- There will be construction on the G-Train over the next seven weekends. There will be shuttle bus service
